Cedar Rapids is a 2011 comedy film directed by Miguel Arteta. The script, written by Phil Johnston, was included on the 2009 Blacklist, a Hollywood list of the most popular unproduced screenplays of the year.
Plot
Naive and idealistic insurance agent Tim Lippe (Ed Helms) is sent to represent his company at a regional conference in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Lippe is sent as a replacement for his co-worker who dies in an auto-erotic asphyxiation accident. Lippe meets fellow insurance agents Ronald Wilkes (Isiah Whitlock Jr.), Dean Ziegler (John C. Reilly) and Joan Ostrowski-Fox (Anne Heche). His new cohorts help him discover how Lemke won the prestigious "Two Diamonds Award".
After his boss, Bill Krogstad (Stephen Root), tells him that he has sold the insurance company, Lippe ends up exposing the corruption of insurance association president, Orin Helgesson (Kurtwood Smith). The film ends with Lippe, Wilkes and Ziegler becoming buddies and opening their own insurance company called Top Notch Mutual.
